Apart from his major back injury in ’93, Aikman also had to suffer more injuries over the course of his career. He dealt with concussions and knee injuries as well. When he decided to quit football in 2001, a lot of people assumed that these medical issues were the problem. However, he is not someone who will shy away from a certain thing because of some pain. As a matter of fact, he is someone who will stand up courageously for his beliefs and act accordingly when something needs to be done. In 2016, Aikman told Dallas News that his decision to retire had “absolutely nothing to do” with the injuries or concussions he suffered. As a matter of fact, he informed GQ, “It’s a brutal game. I consider myself to be one of the really, really fortunate ones, to have gotten out of the game as healthy as I did.” Even though football is a young man’s game, the 35-year-old player was wise enough to know when it was the right time for him to quit.
