In 2016, Aikman told Dallas News that his decision to retire had “absolutely nothing to do” with the injuries or concussions he suffered. As a matter of fact, he informed GQ, “It’s a brutal game. I consider myself to be one of the really, really fortunate ones, to have gotten out of the game as healthy as I did.” Even though football is a young man’s game, the 35-year-old player was wise enough to know when it was the right time for him to quit.
