John ‘Ecstasy’ Fletcher

Ecstasy, a founding member of the pioneering hip-hop group Whodini, died at the age of 56 from unknown causes. Fletcher and fellow rapper Jalil Hutchins formed the group in 1982, and DJ Grandmaster Dee later joined. Whodini is regarded as a pioneer in the hip-hop genre. “Friends” and “Five Minutes of Funk” have been heavily sampled by other artists.

The Grammy-winning country singer died just a week after being diagnosed with pneumonia caused by COVID-19. At the time, she was 78 years old. The legendary singer-songwriter, best known for being the first woman to win song of the year at the in 1988, also appeared on television in the 1990s as a guest star and late-night host, as well as starring opposite Harry Hamlin in Poisoned by Love and in’s 1993 film. She was inducted into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014, and she was elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018.
