There’s an especially obnoxious Hollywood cliche that suggests women’s lives revolve around men. When a female character loses her object of devotion, she turns insane and occasionally attempts to murder him. In Fatal Attraction, such an individual is referred to as “the bunny boiler.” The film changed things up by giving the obsessed woman superpowers. Glenn Close is displeased that she contributed to the conception of this concept. She told the New York Times in 2017 that the film’s ending “turned a character [she] loved into a murdering psychopath.” It is worth mentioning, however, that other films, such as My Super Ex-Girlfriend, have relied on this stereotype.

Women Only Ever Talk About Men

Have you ever come across the Bechdel Test? It is a criterion used to assess how a film handles its female characters, named after illustrator and concept originator Alison Bechdel. Female characters must discuss something other than a man in order to pass this criteria. That may appear to be a low standard, but there are many films that fail to meet it. Even Twilight cannot remove it. While female-led films perform better overall, several of them could have performed even better. For one instance, critics believe La La Land fails since the majority of the female characters’ names are only featured in the credits.
