Celebrities aren’t the only ones who benefit from the red carpet experience. It’s also an excellent opportunity for designers to showcase their work. During their appearances at major events, many of fashion’s most well-known names have encountered unexpected difficulties.
Winnie Forsyth
An outdoor red carpet presents a unique set of challenges in that you can plan almost everything except the weather. The most you can hope for is that it will allow you to work as efficiently as possible.
There were some stunning images of Winnie Forsyth wearing this yellow gown at the British Academy Film Awards in 2013. The gown’s train, which we don’t see as much of, is what we’re missing out on. As a result, she opted to simply remove it for a more convenient, but still elegant, evening.
Hayden Panettiere
Hayden Panettiere is no stranger to appearances on the red carpet. Even a seasoned professional can make a mistake from time to time. The 2014 Met Gala was attended by Hayden Panettiere in a ballgown worthy of a Disney movie.
However, the lengthy nature of the piece proved to be a hindrance. On the red carpet, the stairs got the better of her, despite her best efforts. At least she didn’t freak out and ended up getting some great shots on those same stairwells.
Jenny McCarthy
Jenny McCarthy looked stunning at the 1997 Oscars, but she felt something wasn’t quite right. There was a reason, she explained to US Weekly, why her dress felt too tight on her.
According to the actress, she “walked the red carpet, went to the Vanity Fair party, felt like a million bucks but I did wonder why it was so tight in the chest all night” It was Valentino himself who told her that she was wearing the dress backwards, which answered all of her questions.
Ashley Graham
Anyone who has tried on a pair of stilettos can attest to the difficulty of walking in them. Then again, there are those who manage to pull it off effortlessly! As a result of this difficulty, it’s not surprising that stars make mistakes from time to time.
When it comes to pulling off difficult looks, Graham is an expert. Even so, there was a brief moment of concern when the star got a stiletto caught on her outfit. She made a complete and speedy recovery, which is a breath of fresh air.
Sofia Vergara
Sofia Vergara has been on the red carpet for a while now. That’s why you might have missed Modern Family’s fashion crisis at the Emmys in 2012 if you weren’t paying attention. As part of the Modern Family cast, Sofia Vergara was in attendance to accept the award for Best Comedy Series for the show.
However, a behind-the-scenes look revealed that in Hollywood, it is sometimes necessary to make last-minute adjustments to glamorous looks in order to avoid problems such as the clothes splitting at the seams.
Cameron Diaz
While Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz helped promote Charlie’s Angels in 2003, the film was less successful. This included a few appearances on the red carpet, of course. White outfits were worn by all the actresses at the film’s premiere in 2003.
Lucky for Diaz, Barrymore and Liu were nearby when she tripped over her own foot while crossing the street to meet some fans. We can only assume that Charlie’s angels have had to deal with more than a snagged shoelace.
Nicki Minaj
Over the years, Nicki Minaj has worn a variety of eye-catching outfits. Even when things go awry, she’s been able to adapt her outfits on the fly. Over the years, we may have missed a number of fashion disasters.
During the 2014 MTV Music Video Awards, the hip-hop artist’s gown unexpectedly opened up! A disaster for most people, the star simply caught her dress before it became too late and played the whole thing off as if nothing had happened.
Lili Reinhart
If we’re talking about frightful fashion moments that we didn’t witness, you would never have guessed that Lili Reinhart needed some last-minute alterations before attending the 2017 Teen Choice Awards.
Overall, the actress looked great at the event, and it was only because she tweeted about a mishap she had on the blue carpet. Her dress’ waistband was held together by two strings, and one of them ripped as she was being zipped up, but she was still thrilled to be there.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is one person who isn’t afraid to wear something that isn’t very practical. At the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards, she would not disappoint. The singer wasn’t just there to watch; she was also there to accept an award for being a fashion icon!
Gaga nailed the train and the impossibly high heels of this outfit, only stumbling when her top fell off her shoulders. It was still there, and the icon just kept going.
Zendaya
In the past, we’ve discussed the difficulties of walking down the red carpet in a pair of ridiculously high heels. When you’re not posing for pictures, it’s difficult to maintain your balance in these!
Wearing yellow high heels, Zendaya dazzled at the Radio Disney Music Awards in 2016. According to what her stylist once told Footwear News, “Rumor has it that he said he did not design the shows to be worn outside. Literally eight minutes into the walk to the carpet, I was holding her up because her legs were buckling.”
Behati Prinsloo
If you work in a position that requires you to deal with fashion mishaps, you’ll be prepared. A Victoria’s Secret Angel would have to be able to deal with a fashion mishap. When Behati Prinsloo and her husband Adam Levine walked the carpet at the 2015 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, that’s exactly what happened.
There was no way she could go wrong with that outfit. Unfortunately, she noticed it slipping down throughout the night, but thanks to her trusty hubby, she was able to avoid a major disaster. You can see that the two were able to laugh off the mishap with ease.
Ben Affleck
There is a lot of focus on women’s fashion on the red carpet, but that does not necessarily prevent men from making fashion mistakes from time to time as well.
Ben Affleck had his own red carpet calamity, but it could have been a lot worse for him. The slate suit he wore for the 2016 premiere of Suicide Squad was a safe choice. He may have wanted to fiddle with the buttons for a little longer before he left.
Micaela Schäefer
A fashion designer’s art form appears to know no bounds, and it appears to have no limits. As a matter of fact, you might notice that some designers are attempting to create new looks by incorporating traditional fabrics.
At the German premiere of Men in Black 3, Micaela Schäefer drew attention with a unique look. The film from VHS tapes was used for the entire bottom half of the gown. Since wind frequently blew away the skirt, Schäefer appeared to accept the wind as a part of the look and go along with it.
Katherine Heigl
In 2010, Katherine Heigl had a successful night at the ShoWest Awards in Los Angeles. After all, she was in attendance to accept the Female Star of the Year Award! She even had the perfect gown for the occasion—until the shoulder strap snapped.
Fortunately, thanks to presenter Billy Bush, the star was able to identify the problem. Thus, she was able to finish her speech and accept the award without being interrupted for an extended period of time by the unpleasant surprise.
Mario Lopez
It’s possible that cracking a joke about a bad situation can alleviate the discomfort. Mario Lopez, at least, took part in the event. He had some last-minute issues with his suit on the way to a red carpet event.
Even if you tried, it was hard to ignore them! So, the actor decided to take ownership of the situation, tweeting about it with the hashtags #PantsTooTight and #Undies to make light of the unfortunate situation.
Rihanna
At the Ocean’s 8 premiere, Rihanna dazzled the audience with her presence. For the occasion, the musician and actress wore a Poiret gown that was embellished with a dazzling metallic gold sash that draped down one shoulder.
This sliding sleeve was, unfortunately, the source of all of the star’s woes. The sleeve didn’t fall off, but it kept trying to fall down, so she had to keep pulling it back up between photos. In a positive turn of events, she avoided serious injury while capturing a few memorable pictures.
Katy Perry
There are times when you have no choice but to accept the outcome of an outfit. That’s where Katy Perry ended up at the Academy awards last year, in that very spot.
Jean-Paul Gaultier’s dress, which she wore, was inspired by vintage styles. The gown made it to the Vanity Fair afterparty, but the drop-waist seam tore during the walk down the red carpet. She kept her head covered, but her designer gown was a total loss.
Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson did, to her credit, make it through the red carpet at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards without getting trampled on. The wardrobe malfunction in question occurred during a performance on stage.
While accepting an award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress for her role in 50 Shades of Grey, the actress’s shirt came untied. Fortunately, Leslie Mann was able to get her hands on it just in time. It didn’t take Johnson long to lighten the mood by saying that if the top had come off, it wouldn’t have been anything new.
Bella Hadid
A pair of supermodel sisters, Bella and Gigi Hadid, have amassed a considerable amount of celebrity over the course of their careers. As a result, dealing with a minor fashion mishap is nothing new to them.
Bella Hadid faced some difficulties at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. She opted for a strikingly classic look with a high-slit red gown and a pair of pointed-toe pumps. As impressive as her feat was, the train was surprisingly difficult to control.
Lily-Rose Depp
Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose, is a well-known actress in her own right. She was there to celebrate the premiere of the film The King, which is what we’re talking about today.
The actress wore a gown from Chanel’s 2020 collection to the premiere. A halter top with a ruffled texture was included. The actress was able to laugh off a particularly strong gust of wind that tried to blow her top out of place, and she quickly readjusted it for the next picture.
Cardi B
Cardi B has garnered a great deal of attention for her fashion sense over the course of her career. “La Modelo” was performed at a performance in Calibash in 2018, and she attended the performance.
The dress was stunning, with a classic style, but it had one major flaw. Under stage lights, the rapper’s dress was clearly seen to be transparent on the red carpet and in the audience. She later posted a message on Instagram stating, “Last night was LIT!!! Even tho I realize my dress was see-through and I realized at the last minute.”
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian is well-known for her taste in clothing, so it’s no surprise that she wore a vintage Versace gown to the opening of The Cher Show. Keeping the back open, the gown had a halter top.
The only issue was that the actress over-adjusted her dress on the red carpet, revealing a portion of her chest. It didn’t take Kardashian long to laugh it off, even posting a censored GIF of Cher on Instagram.
Emily Ratajkowski
A gown’s train can make or break the look. However, the longer your dress is, the more difficult it will be to keep track of it throughout the night. As a supermodel, Emily Ratajkowski is no stranger to attempting difficult ensembles.
As a result, she probably handled the challenge of her gold gown better than most people would at the 2017 Golden Globes. Still, some of the photos showed that the train was obstructing the view.
Chloë Grace Moretz
Chlo Grace Moretz was on Watch What Happens Live when she had a wardrobe malfunction. Fortunately, unless she turned around, you wouldn’t have noticed. The velvet top the star wore was fashionable, but it lacked the stretch she needed, it seemed.
Tore the seam and split the back of the sleeve from one overextension, it appears. At least the back shoulder, which was only visible when she signed autographs, isn’t too bad if the outfit had to tear.
Anne Hathaway
You might have missed Anne Hathaway’s Met Gala wardrobe malfunction if you’re like the majority of people. On Stephen Colbert’s Late Show With Stephen Colbert, she finally broke the news herself.
The actress shared, “One year, I was going as the guest of Calvin Klein and Francisco Costa. I was about a block away from the Met.” She continued, “And I sneezed, and my dress split. Like just straight-up split open.” They had to make a detour to find a seamstress to assist, so Hathaway arrived second to last.
Hailee Steinfeld
A few fashion gaffes on the red carpet have everyone’s ear pricked up. In some cases, you may not know about them until it is too late. Hailee Steinfeld was a member of the latter group at the Oscars in 2017.
The actress wowed in a floor-length floral gown that cascaded to her feet on the red carpet. However, if you look closely, you may be able to discern a small tear the actor was able to hide almost completely.
Minnie Driver
Be quick on your feet when you’re a versatile performer. It also comes in handy when there are wardrobe malfunctions on the red carpet. In 1998, Minnie Driver attended the Academy Awards and wore a red gown because she expected to walk the red carpet.
Driver was unfazed by the fact that the dress began to fall apart after a while. To keep herself warm, she wrapped the shawl she was carrying around her shoulders and let the faux fur drape over her in an appropriate fashion statement.
Laura Govan
On the red carpet, Laura Govan wore a patterned party dress that was full of color and pattern to make an impact. She encountered many of the same issues that Michelle Rodriguez encountered while wearing the strapless dress.
In no time, the actress had come to terms with the fact that her fancy dress wasn’t going anywhere. For most of her time out on the red carpet, she was either holding the dress or yanking it up. Aside from being a bit uncomfortable, the dress looked great on her.
Janet Jackson
The unfair situation Janet Jackson faced at Super Bowl XXXVIII must be mentioned when discussing fashion disasters. In addition to Justin Timberlake, the singer was scheduled to perform at the halftime show.
The wardrobe malfunction was caused by Timberlake pulling the pocket of fabric over Jackson’s right breast during the performance. Timberlake was supposed to remove her bustier and leave her bra in place for coverage, but she later admitted that it was a mistake.
Ariel Winter
This isn’t Ariel Winter’s first time attending an awards show; she’s also been nominated for a few. Her performance on the Emmys red carpet in 2017 was nothing short of spectacular.
There were two high slits on the gown in question that made it sparkle even more. It wasn’t easy for the star to avoid a disaster, but he or she did manage to do so. Management of the dress appears to have been more difficult than anticipated.
Margot Robbie
In recent years, Margot Robbie has enjoyed a rapid rise in popularity thanks to a number of notable roles she has played. In this particular case, she was there to commemorate the release of the film I, Tonya.
As Tonya Harding, Margot Robbie was the film’s star when it premiered in Australia earlier this month. The actress wore a simple silk gown in pale pink with a deep neckline that she accentuated with a sash. The star was constantly adjusting her dress because of this neckline.
Beyoncé
Everything Beyonce does looks effortless because she has a way of making it look so. Walking down the red carpet can be surprisingly difficult, even when it’s a simple task. At the 2011 Met Gala, the mermaid-inspired gown was a big hit.
However, the appearance came at a cost: reduced mobility. Because she was swiftly followed by her husband, fellow celebrity Jay-Z, Beyonce was able to navigate the red carpet with ease.
Kaitlyn Bristowe
On the red carpet, Kaitlyn Bristowe had to make a quick decision, and her fans knew exactly what happened. In the course of the 2018 Emmys, she kept the public informed of the calamity.
Her outfit for the occasion was a black gown. The dress would have been fine if the zipper had not split the back. She explained that she couldn’t stand or stay decent because of the tear, but that a kind couple had been kind enough to lend her a jacket.
Chrissy Teigen
It was Chrissy Teigan’s relatable persona that helped her build her brand. So it’s no surprise that after a red carpet wardrobe malfunction, she shared her unfortunate situation with fans.
Teigen wore a white gown with a slit in the front to a particular event. It was only a matter of time before that five-inch-wide slit got ripped further into the fabric. As a last-ditch effort, Teigen posted a photo of herself tucking the fashion gaffe under her bag.
Lady Victoria Hervey
Lady Victoria Hervey is a well-known figure in the world of celebrity. She has a lot of experience on the red carpet because of her socialite status and her acting and modeling careers.
In 2015, she faced a unique challenge at the Cannes Film Festival. She’d been strutting and posing on the red carpet in the same low-cut, high-slit gown for quite a while. Sadly, a stray wind gust blew it all over the place. She only stumbled a little bit, but she handled it well.
Emma Stone
You can see how beautiful trains on dresses can be, but also how challenging they can be to make. In some cases, it’s not just for those who are dressed to impress.
Emma Stone looked flawless in a Dior suit and dress on the red carpet. When Stone and the rest of the Birdman cast stepped onstage to accept an award for Best Ensemble, everything went awry. Although she nearly fell over Stone’s train, Edward Norton caught her just in time.
Elisabetta Canalis
Before the 2010 Oscars, no one would have known that Elisabetta Canalis’ dress had a problem that could have spelled disaster. In the process of getting ready, Canalis’ dress’s zipper broke.
In the end, the situation was easily resolved when Canalis’ then-boyfriend, George Clooney, stepped in to sew the zipper back into place at the last minute, saving her from having to call in Hollywood help.
Beyoncé Is Back
After all, prior to Beyoncé’s Met Gala appearance in a mermaid gown, she was asked to perform at the 2005 Academy Awards. This included a number of quick and complete costume changes throughout the performance.
“Learn To Be Lonely” from The Phantom of the Opera was sung by a star who had only a few minutes to get ready before the performance. The shoe came off completely during the performance, but the audience didn’t notice because it was hidden in the dress.
Jennifer Lawrence
As a result, we’ve seen glimpses of the more human side of Jennifer Lawrence in recent films. A red carpet mishap doesn’t phase her because of this. A similar occurrence transpired at the 2011 SAG Awards. In a bright pink floor-length gown, the star was clearly drawing attention.
However, when she tripped over her own shoes and fell to the ground, she was seen by everyone. She laughed it off and continued posing for the paparazzi, as is customary for J-Law.
Another One for Jennifer Lawrence
Even though she made a common red carpet faux pas, Jennifer Lawrence hasn’t let it get to her. To be fair, she walked the Oscars red carpet in a gown for her first acceptance speech.
The most difficult part was accepting the award. The Best Actress winner fell to the ground after tripping over the hem of her gown as she climbed the stairwell. Later, she added, “What went through my mind when I fell down? A…a bad word…that I can’t say. It starts with ‘F.’”
Sarah Hyland
She has been on the red carpet for quite some time now. This year’s Emmy Awards saw the actress wear a red gown with a slit in the back. Because of the cutouts, you probably hope that the dress won’t fall off when you put it on.
When the bottom part of the dress just wouldn’t stay in place, Hyland appeared to be taken aback. Consequently, she had to adjust the band constantly and later posted about it on Instagram to lighten the mood.
Mariah Carey
Everyone is familiar with the Cinderella tale. After the ball, her true love is able to track her down thanks to her misplaced shoe. For her Cinderella moment, Mariah Carey decided to swap out her glass slippers for a pair of fairly high Louboutins.
However, it appears that Carey’s added height would have made this misstep even more intimidating, but she is a seasoned professional who didn’t let the slip derail her plans for long.
Michelle Rodriguez
Strapless dresses have a lot of interest. The lack of straps means that they aren’t always as easy to keep up with. When Michelle Rodriguez stepped out for the sixth Fast and Furious film, she encountered the same issue.
When the dress kept slipping down, it didn’t take long to figure out what the problem was. She still managed to get some great shots despite the fact that she was constantly holding her dress up.
Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts has proven to be a talented actress, as expected from a member of this illustrious lineage. As a result, there are a number of premieres where she can be spotted by fans.
The actress’ purple dress began to fade as she arrived at the premiere of The Blackcoat’s Daughter. This picture clearly shows that one sleeve is torn on the side. “My sleeve almost fell off and completely exposed my body!” she told PeopleStyle.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner wowed the audience at the MTV Movie Awards in a stunning gown. Some of the attention was drawn to the dress’s shoes, which had a dramatic lace-up design.
Even though it took two assistants to get those stilettos on, they just wouldn’t stay laced. Her assistants had to re-tie the ties every time they took a picture. For those who missed it, Gigi Hadid posted a Snapchat of Jenner trying to remove her sandals at the end of the night.
