It was challenging to go to the cinema in the 1980s without seeing Kathleen Turner. She starred in films such as Body Heat, Romancing the Stone, Prizzi’s Honor, The War of the Roses, and Peggy Sue Got Married, all of which were hugely popular. Her smoldering good looks and seductive voice rendered her an ideal option for the part of femme fatale in Hollywood. During the decade, she earned the Golden Globe for Best Actress and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Kathleen Turner has little influence over her transition from a sex siren to a regular citizen. She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in the 1990s, which caused her excruciating discomfort, and tried to confine her to a wheelchair. Some critics were critical of the drug recommended for her recovery because it induced general weight gain and bloating. Turner, like so many other female actors, was pushed out of the spotlight, and her acting offers shifted from “star” to “mother” or even “grandmother.” Her arthritis has thankfully gone into remission in recent years, and she has starred in a variety of guest parts over the years, including Friends, Nip/Tuck, and Californication. We’re relieved that she’s looking and doing healthier.
