We are always told: “celebrities are just like you” and in some respects that’s true; celebrities are regular people with extraordinary jobs. And nothing is more ‘regular’ than a bit of online dating. Could you imagine scrolling through the latest dating website/app and seeing your favourite A-lister amongst the average Joes?! Well, it could happen! Lets have a look at some of the celebrities who have tries online dating:
Child-star turned wild child, Lindsay Lohan, has been extremely vocal about her love for Tinder; spreading her words of wisdom to her many fans. Lohan has publicly shared good and bad stores on her online journey for love. One of her stories was that whilst she was looking through the many men of Hollywood on Tinder, she saw one man she definitely wasn’t looking for — her brother! Instead of turning a blind eye, Lohan decided to screenshot her lil bros Tinder profile to show her over 2 million Instagram followers!
In July 2005, Halle Berry reportedly announced that she had tried a few online dating sites in order to understand the hype. The Oscar-winning actress would frequent chatrooms before she met her now husband, Oliver Martinez. But could the former Bond girl be a catfish? “I am never who I am. I have been to a couple of dating ones just to see what everyone is talking about.”
Currently Adele is happily in love with partner, Simon Konecki; the pair even have a 2-year old son together. But even Adele has dipped her foot in the online dating pool, signing up for eHarmony after a nasty break-up. We might be inclined to think that online dating is easier for A-listers, but the ten-times Grammy winner tells a different tale: “I just signed up for eHarmony, I can’t put a photo of myself, so I don’t get any emails.”
In 2014, married British singer Lily Allen caused a commotion by announcing that she had signed up for the popular dating app Tinder. Tweeting “Just discovered tinder. *waves goodbye to life*. Whilst it’s likely that Allen was only using the app for a bit of a giggle (it is notorious for its chat-up fails and creepy come-ons) fans were still incredibly distressed at the singer/mom’s revelation.
Deborah Ann Woll
Best known for her role as Jessica Hamby on HBO’s True Blood, Deborah Ann Woll knows a thing or two about online dating. In fact, Woll actually met her current boyfriend on the popular dating website match.com in 2007. Admittedly that was before she was gracing the small screen, but who knows how many future celebrities are signed up to online dating… maybe you could snag yourself a gem before the rest of the world cottons on! Woll told Glamour magazine “I’m shy, and I’d always had a hard time meeting boys. I had a serious boyfriend in high school, but Hollywood, where it’s all about being ‘cool,’ terrifies me! When I opened my Match account, I’d done a few guest spots but wasn’t on True Blood yet, and I wanted to find someone grounded.”
Eric Stonestreet, better known as Cameron Tucker on ABC’s Modern Family, is so good at playing one-half of the shows beloved gay couple, that many don’t realise Stonestreet is actually straight. With even his co-stars describing him as “gay for pay”, perhaps that’s why the Emmy award winner resorted to online dating. In January 2014, Stonestreet told Howard Stern: “I’ve gone out with a couple girls in L.A that I met on Tinder, like on real dates, It’s hard to meet people.”
American model, television host, comedic actress, author and anti-vaccine activist Jenny McCarthy has had a dabble at online dating. In 2011, McCarthey told Access Hollywood: “I have checked the men I like between 35-48 [on Match.com] — I don’t care if they have a big nose. I don’t care if they’re bald. Just really sweet and who’s a perfect reflection of who I am now. They have to have a job. I’d like them to at least be able to buy dinners and stuff like that. That is important.”
Providing a refreshing change of pace, late night talk show host, Chelsea Handler, has been very open about her use of online dating. But for the comedian, she’s just looking for fun, not love. Wink wink! She said: ”I’m going to go on Tinder, I just keep forgetting to. I would, I don’t mind that idea at all. You can verify me, I’ll verify that I’m me. Or you could just text me and I’ll text you back and say, ‘I’m famous, let’s f***!’ I don’t want to hook up with famous people, I want to hook up with regular men on the street. I like anonymous random men. That’s exactly what I’m looking for.” Saucy!
Patti Stanger is an American businesswomen, who produced and starred in hit Bravo TV: The Millionaire Matchmaker. But it appears that even the best sometimes have to resort to online dating, in June 2013, Stanger, told the press: “I met [my boyfriend] online and he’s a keeper — I tried four sites, including my own site and Plenty of Fish, and Plenty of Fish won… I did everything in my book. I did dating detox…I knew what I wanted, he what he wanted.”
