Defiance At Its Best
The Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, was riddled with Nazi propaganda. It resembled nothing of the fair-play ideals the competition stood for. Adolf Hitler was convinced that the Aryan Germans were superior and would dominate the Games. After Jesse Owens, a black long-jumper from America took first place in front of German Luz long, Hitler refused to shake Owens’ hand. When standing at the podium to receive his medal, Owens refused to salute the Nazi salute.
