Jin Mao Tower

China, and Shanghai specifically, is rather well represented on the list of tallest buildings in the world. The reason is that their population density demands the motivation of upward building. The Jin Mao Tower is an 88 story skyscraper located in Shanghai, China. This is the 18th tallest skyscraper in the world and it is a vital part of Shanghai’s tourism. The building was constructed from 1994 to 1999 and it sits at 1,380 feet tall. There are 95 total floors if you count the basement and over 3 million square feet of coverable areas that can be accessed by the 61 elevators in the building. Adrian Smith designed the building in the style of Neo Futurism, making it stand our starkly against some of the more traditional element sof the Shanghai skyline. The Jin Mao Tower has a shopping mall, a Grand Hyatt Hotel, and various offices inside of it.

Zifeng Tower

We are heading back to China once more only this time we will be in Nanjing, in the Jiangsu province of China. Here we will find Zifeng Tower, formerly known as the Nanjing Greenland Financial Center. The Zifeng Tower was built over a period of five years between 2005 and 2010 for an estimated 5 million RMB (the official Chinese currency). The Zifeng Tower was built by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill with Adrian Smith sitting as the lead architect. The tower sits at 1,480 feet tall and its highest point and it has 71 total floors with 54 elevators. The building is steeped as it elevates upward, allowing for specialized sections of the building. it is the 12th tallest skyscraper in the world and features a hotel, dining, offices, and an observatory.
