While Selleck was promoting his film 1999 The Love Letter, he was asked to appear on Rosie O’Donnell’s show and so he did. However, he believed he was there to talk about when his show when O’Donnell continuously grilled him about where he stood on gun ownership. She continued to bombard him with questions to which he finally replied, “It’s your show, and you can talk about it after I leave.”

During filming of Magnum, Selleck was very stressed and had little of a successful work-life balance. Many long hours on set meant that he couldn’t be home enough so when his daughter Hannah was born, he needed a break. He felt that it was crucial he was home with his family more than working as an actor.
