Hemingway at the Hospital

Ernest Hemingway grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. After he graduated from high school, he became a reporter for a short time in The Kansas City Star. Before he decided to leave the Italian Front to join the army as an ambulance driver in World War I. In the year 1918, he attained a serious injury and was returned to his home. In the picture, we could see Hemingway on the second man on the left side of the photo. Besides him were a nurse and soldier at the American Red Cross hospital in Milan, Italy.

Mixed-Race Filipino Woman, 1875

Sangley was used as an archaic word in the Philippines. The word was applied at the beginning of the Spanish colonial period to categorize the people as a mixed Chinese and Filipino lineage. Later, in the history of the Philippines, Spanish called the people in the country as Indio. The photo that we could see was shot in the year 1875 by the Francisco Van Camp. The term Intsik was meant to be Chinese, while Tsinoy, also known as Chino, was a Chinese person who was born in the Philippines.
