The Usual Suspects
While there are directors who do not mind improvisation, others want nothing but faithfulness to what is written in the screenplay. An ideal example of the latter kind would be The Usual Suspects director Brian Singer. One scene could not be perfected by the actors, however, and this led to a huge deviation from the script. Think back to the lineup scene in the movie! The actors had been laughing thanks to Benicio Del Toro’s gassy problem and that was how the serious scene became a funny one.
Goodfellas
The Godfather trilogy is the first thing that comes to most people’s mind whenever the topic is about gangster films. However, let us not forget Goodfellas which was great in its own right. The acting in the film was impeccable, but we expect nothing less when you put together Robert De Niro, Jose Pesci, Lorraine Braco, and Ray Liotta together. Of course, the movie made it to the list thanks to Pesci’s improvised “Do I amuse you?” line. We were all at the edge of our seat at that point!
