Even though the existence of biliverdin stained the fur, it did not pose any dangerous effects on the pup. It was only a temporary color change, as a matter of fact. This green tinge would likely become less noticeable after a handful of weeks since Rio will continue to lick and clean the puppy.

After some time, the puppy should look more like his sisters and brothers. Can you believe that it will no longer look different after a little time? This was what happened to the puppy. The green tinge disappeared completely after a while.
Out Of The Ordinary
Even though we now know that the puppy would not stay green for the rest of its life, Claire and Louise still knew that it was unique. Seeing this with their own eyes made for a great experience. Not once did they think that they would ever see a puppy with such a coloring. All of this is thanks to biliverdin!

It was an incredible sight to see. Even though the pups received equal amounts of love, this green pup had something unusual. This is why they gave him a name that was perfect for his extraordinary looks.
