The Perfect Mascot

Mrs. Nabors had been looking for a mascot for the forthcoming book fair, and Jake the dog seemed a perfect fit. ‘Paws for a Good Book,’ a hysterically funny phrase, also worked well and was enthusiastically received by the youngsters, who liked Jake. The puppy’s presence, however, did much more than merely brighten the youngsters’ day. We’ve all heard that dogs may have a subtle impact on people’s moods and behaviors. Jake also had a beneficial influence on the other pupils at school.

Jake’s presence had undoubtedly given some of the kids hope. They may not have realized it at the time, but they required the experience of playing with the puppy. A dog can make everyone smile and can make even the most depressed individuals laugh and temporarily forget their problems. While Jake was the first dog to represent the school, he was far from the last. There have been others, such as Dottie, a service dog. We hope Jake will share the spotlight, even if he believes himself the top dog at Jefferson Elementary.
