Making The Call
Nancy felt after speaking with Camden that she needed to contact his father to address her worries. It’s never easy to ask a child’s parent for information about their private life, but if she truly wanted to assist Camden, she had no choice but to make the call. She searched out the little boy’s home phone number in the class record and dialed his father’s number. The instructor asked the father a question that baffled him so much that he requested her to repeat what she had said.

Darreld, Camden’s father, assumed that when he received the call, Camden had been ill, harmed himself, or was in difficulty. So, when the instructor explained why she was phoning, Darreld’s father was stunned into silence. Camden seems to have spilled his father’s secret. The little boy’s instructor was now aware of the issue. She then asked Darreld the question he didn’t want to hear. How, if at all, would he respond?
