Allan Melvin (Sam Franklin)

On February 18, 1923, Allan Melvin was born in Kansas City, Missouri. The famous actor is known for many shows including The Phil Silvers Show (pictured), The Brady Bunch, and Flash Gordon. In 1969, Melvin landed the role of Alice Nelson’s boyfriend on The Brady Bunch, and his stock character became a close friend of the Bradys. On the show, his character Sam was the owner of the neighborhood butcher shop and often seen delivering meat.

Melvin After The Show

Not many people remember Melvin for his roles on different 70s sitcoms like All in the Family. He has made appearances on Broadway but his big break on television came when he became part of The Phil Silvers Show, where he portrayed Corporal Steve Henshaw. After The Brady Bunch, Melvin devoted his time to doing cartoon voiceovers. In 2008, Melvin died of cancer at the age of 84.
