Mountain climber Doug Scott died on December 7 after being part of the first UK team to summit Mount Everest via the southwest face. He was 79 years old at the time. Scott managed to spend his later years of life in the Himalayas, where he formed the charity Community Action Nepal in 1989.

Pat Patterson, a pioneer in professional wrestling, died on December 2 at the age of 79, according to World Wrestling Entertainment. Patterson, who debuted in 1958, was the first openly gay professional wrestler. After having to retire from the ring, he continued working for WWE.
