The cat had a gloomy expression that made him appear angry all of the time, but as soon as Nathen touched him, the cat rushed in for every ounce of affection. The tiny creature appeared to be starving for affection as well as food. Nathen’s mind sprang to life with a stunning, unexpected idea, something he never imagined was possible.

The Decision
Animals were associated with strewn fur and strange odors. It hit Nathan’s clean freak psyche like a ton of bricks. Every day, however, he found it more difficult to refuse this cat. He stood there petting the now-white cat, pondering whether he should simply adopt it and give it a better life. It was so filthy in life that it might be able to help in some strange way.
