Picking The Crab
Mark quickly grabbed the large crab in his hands and positioned himself next to a fascinating creature who had suddenly become friendly. But the reality is that Mark has no idea what he’s up against right now. He’d undoubtedly discovered a long-extinct species. It could be Callichimaera perflexa, an old species. He dialed the National Park Center right away. The beast’s appearance piqued the public’s interest.

An Anomaly
For over 22 years, crab expert Max Orchard worked at the Christmas Island National Park with world-renowned crab researchers. It was an oddity for the many different crab species that called Christmas Island home. It wouldn’t have been too far for Orchard to discover a new species on Christmas Island.
