Past midnight
The first thing she saw was that it was after midnight on her alarm clock. Even though she didn’t anticipate the light to be on, she still wanted to check. She was shocked to see that the light was on. In fact, Abby could see motion inside the shed. While her mother slept, her father had evidently gone back to the shed.

He was lying to them both
This piqued Abby’s interest. Her father had lied to her mother in addition to her. To check if her mother was still present, she snuck out of her room and went to her parents’ room, where she discovered that she was. After that, Abby quietly slipped out the back door and down the stairs.
