The experts were aware that no facility was capable of looking after all of the 8,000 tortoises. The poor animals had been through the worst, so everybody wanted the tortoises to feel comfortable and happy. This was just a small thing that they could do for the poor creatures!

It turns out that it was not possible to release the tortoises into the wild just like that anyway. The critters have spent almost all their lives inside the house. If they were released into the wild, they would only be in danger of getting caught by poachers again or dying.
