That particular night, Crystal was with some of her friends pretty much every day. They spent considerable time even until midnight when Crystal fled. She took the little she had and went to the bus to New York City. And so, she started her new life.

It was not even long before Crystal got pregnant with her first child. Through her new name, Crystal was able to get a Medicaid card for herself. She would have three more children. In New York, she became a member of the Dominican community.
