When Apollo began reading the letter, he could tell right away that all three of the friends were deeply remorseful for leaving the restaurant without paying for their meals. As one of them put it, “It is my companions’ and [my] sincerest apologies…we forgot to pay our bill.” “It was very unlike us, which is why we are very remorseful.” Regardless, Apollo had doubts about their sincerity. Then they proceeded to recount the events of that day…

Did they really plan on paying?
Despite the fact that they had not stated that they intended to pay for their food that day, the three friends assured Apollo that they did so sincerely. They just didn’t have any cash on them. They expressed their desire to pay by credit card but were informed that the restaurant only accepts cash payments. This explains why they didn’t say anything when they left the restaurant. They were on the lookout for a way to make some cash. Things, on the other hand, did not go as planned…
