Camden used to be a major hub for manufacturing for companies like General Electric and RCA, but the city is now among the most dangerous American cities, according to NBC Philadelphia. In fact, Camden’s crime rate in 2012 was one of the worst in the entire nation – it was 6.6 times higher compared to the national average. According to Courier Post in 2019, there was a 19.5% drop in violent crimes and 16.9% in non-violent offenses. This is indeed great news, but the crime rate in Camden is still 225% above the national average.
