Filming for Saturday Night Live takes place in Studio 8H, which is located on the 8th and 9th floors of the Comcast Building, also known as 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Tina Fey’s SNL-inspired comedy 30 Rock is, of course, named after this location.

Arturo Toscanini and the NBC Symphony Orchestra used the studio as a radio soundstage prior to its current use. It was suggested by Toscanini that the entire stage be suspended from the ceiling so that it would not be disturbed by the nearby subway’s rumble.

Jon Hamm hosted his first Saturday Night Live in 2008. A sketch based on the actor’s hit show, Mad Men, would be performed by him and Amy Poehler on the show. A heavily pregnant Poehler learned that her OB-GYN had died while they were rehearsing for their show.
