Chevy Chase Was Homophobic
He was a cast member of Saturday Night Live’s first season, real name Cornelius Crane Chase. The actor won three Emmys for his work on the show, two for writing it and one for acting in it. Chevy Chase, on the other hand, held some deeply troubling beliefs, which he frequently expressed on television.
Chevy Chase made a homophobic joke about Terry Sweeney, a gay cast member, in an episode during the HIV epidemic. Lorne Michaels demanded an immediate apology from Chase, which displeased the comedian.
The Cast Write Their Own Material
The Saturday Night Live cast is expected to write their own material, unlike some other shows. For some cast members, not being able to see their sketches on TV has been a source of frustration. This was the real reason Larry David took a leave of absence.
Rachel Dratch, a cast member, has stated this: “I don’t think people realize how much you have to write for yourself. If you can’t figure it out, then you’re handed your walking papers.”
