The orthopedic surgeon who performed Scott’s operation, Dr. Shahab Mahboubian, is somewhat of a social media celebrity. The 46-year-old Californian has more than 45,000 Instagram followers. Mahboubian’s practice does not solely consist of height-increment surgery, though he estimates that he performs 30–40 of these operations each year. Even though it isn’t his primary specialty, he did reveal that “It’s become a big part of my practice. It’s the thing most people are interested in. That’s where I get most of my consultations,” Mahboubian said.
