Lace hasn’t held up well over time. It used to be called a status mark since it was crafted by hand, but in today’s manufacturing environment, everything is mass-produced and sold for a low price. So while your great-grandma may have existed in a period where having your table wrapped in it was impressive, it now comes off as either inexpensive or suggestive of a church. It’s also brittle, which means it won’t last as long as a decent fabric cover… It also won’t give the visitors the impression that they’ve been taken to the Victorian period.
