The Birth Of Jam Sessions

Many people consider the festival to be the birthplace of what we now know as the American drum circle. This applies to the coming together of a group of people to play music together. Perhaps you know it better as a “jam session.” Everyone was influenced by the music being played to create their own music and make instruments with anything they had. The attendees were jammed with friends and strangers alike. It was easy to join in on the fun and make amazing music together!

Setting Up The Sound System

At Woodstock, the person in charge of sound engineering was Bill Hanley. According to him, the event was very successful. He developed custom speaker columns and placed arrays on the high towers. The arrangement was intended to entertain only 150,000 people. As we already know, the crowd that came was much larger than they had originally anticipated. The sound system was perfect nonetheless.
