This young collector was genuinely interested in the painting he recently bought from a junk auction. He only bought it for two dollars, but somehow he felt that there was more value to it than meets the eye. He assumed he would get a little bit of cash from it. However, he did not know its real worth. That’s why he was shocked when he decided to get it appraised by an art expert. Everyone was astounded to find out who actually painted it.
A Very Special Interview
One day in 2013, the cameras started rolling for a particular show. David Weiss was a well-known appraiser who has examined a lot of vintage items in the past. It was just a regular day and no one knew that something special would happen.
A Knowledgeable Person
In the American edition of the Antiques Roadshow, he was the most knowledgeable appraiser in drawings and sculptures and had many different meetings with auction houses. Sitting across from the appraiser was the kid who was carrying the frame. He was noticeably quiet throughout the show. After a couple of arrangements, the specialist started his business.

Evaluating The Item
David also questioned the young contestant in the show, the equivalent of all the visitors who brought their product to be evaluated by the strongest assessor. He asked the boy what he was thinking about his own portrait.
Very Passionate For His Age
It’s impossible to figure out anything about the item without talking to the creator. Of necessity, Weiss starting asking the young boy questions regarding the portrait in question. He might discover more about its roots this way. The appraiser began the interview by telling the young man, “You must be the youngest collector I’ve seen.” That made the boy grin and said, “I think so.” That wasn’t the only explanation Weiss was so fascinated by him. After a lengthy drive from their home in South Jersey to Richmond, Virginia, his parents eventually agreed to take interest in the investigation. On the day of the show, the parents hugged their son and picked up a bright red t-shirt that the young visitor carried in front of the audience.
A Thrilling Experience
The young visitor was happy as he appeared at the conference. The reason he had the opportunity to come to the show was his hobby. When he learned that the boy had purchased a ton of antiques, not just a painting, Weiss was surprised.
His Favorite Objects To Collect
The appraiser also realized that the young man was collecting products longer than he had expected. In an interview with the young child, he inquired about the things and the youngster’s favorite thing to collect, and his response to the competent appraiser was, “I like glass, sterling silver, and art.”
Passion For Antiques
Weiss was curious with other items encountered by the young guest, which encouraged him to collect antiques. From his positive response, the appraiser was informed that the boy had a passion of collecting antiques.
His Favorite Item
Weiss needed to see what sort of stuff this young visitor was collecting. What would inspire a person his age to start doing this? When the boy addressed him, the sound of his voice was enough to express his love for antiques. He started to speak about his involvement in the area, and he shared a good deal of information on the topic.
At A Junk Auction
The older appraiser asked the young man, “Where are you going to find this stuff? The boy just answered that he had discovered these items in a junk sale somewhere in his hometown of South Jersey. Weiss was obviously fascinated by the young man seated in front of him. Immediately, he believed that this young man wanted to hang onto the things he had come across. That’s why he was shocked by what the boy told him next.
Different From Him
He was intrigued by the boy in their interview. He assumed that the young man liked to keep whatever antique he could find in his hands. However, the following he got from the visitor appeared far from what the specialist had anticipated.
Holding Onto The Pieces
Weiss was going to ask the boy some questions regarding his sport. He questioned the young guest if he liked to retain the things he had got from these sales. And when he inquired, the host had a response in mind. Children, on the other side, always liked to hang on to their observations. Was that the case with the young kid, too? A Mind For Business
Weiss was extremely involved in the young man seated right across from him. He decided to know more about his background in the field of antiquities. The older appraiser had particular questions in mind and challenged the young guy, “Have you made a lot of money selling silver, would you say? “Once more, the boy was able to inspire him with his answer to the query. The guest demonstrated a lot of experience in the area by informing Weiss that he had been out until September before selling the silver. Over all, that was because he expected that the stock price might shift.
The most interesting part was how the boy had a painting in his possession. The appraiser was seeking to get more information about the boy’s appreciation of antiquity. He assumed that the boy had an item in the yard sales, which the boy thought had little significance to the matter.

He Won The Bid
During the interview, the young man clarified, “This piece was found at the South Jersey sale. It was so sticky there, my dad wasn’t going to linger to get it, however I decided to.” At the end, he just charged two bucks for it at the sale! He was pleased that he had earned his bid. He could sense it in his bones, after all, that it had a wonderful plot. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find a lot of details about it, so he had to ask the pros for support.
A Significant Story
The youngster felt that it would have a big plot when it was made. It was tough for the kid to know where the image came from. This was the reason he had wanted to go to the Antiques Roadshow.
Is It Valuable?
For the spectators who viewed, as well as for David, the thing the kid held in the show looked like an ordinary painting. The assessor recognized, though, that each item had a symbol that would signify whether it was worth it or not.
About A Mother And Her Child

The specialist was shocked by how calm the kid had been all the time. It was also obvious to him that no ordinary child will make an offer on this portrait. The boy responded that after purchasing the painting, he discovered that it was made of aquarelle. He did not figure out anything more than that, though, as the painting was enclosed in glass. Honing His Skills
Before he took the drawing home with him, the boy stared at it and made an appraisal of it. He realized that there was a message at the bottom of the painting. However, only part of the signature was identified. Right then, Weiss knew the full name of the second part. It just took him a look to find it out! Apart from appraising drawing, he decided to help the boy develop his field skills. That was why the expert requested the youngster to repeat what he had just said.
David wanted his image to be written about so they could assess the child’s painting. He’d like the boy to explain what he might see in the painting and say the history of the picture. David found that the young guest’s passion for the arts was real, and as he got older, he was likely to become an appraiser of his thoughts.
The Painting By Albert Neuhuys
This occurred before they could examine the portrait that the boy had with him. First, Weiss needed to talk more about it. He requested the young man to speak as much as he could about the art work. After that, the expert noticed that this was more than just a fleeting hobby for the boy in question. In his opinion, he might always say that in the future, the young boy would make an outstanding appraiser. After everything, the boy was able to explain the signature in great detail. However, he did not work out what the artist’s first name was. This was when Weiss told him of his full name. It was Albert Neuhuys.
From The 19th Century
Albert Neuhuys was a great Dutch painter of the 19th century. David Weiss clarified that this artist also created drawings portraying life at home. The drawing the boy took to the exhibition was a fine illustration of this. It was a scene of a mother and her kids. The painter in question took up painting in Laren Academy, a colony of Dutch artists. He studied there with the likes of Jozef Israel. Neuhuys had to switch from a pastoral existence to a more industrial one. After making this move, he did more art with as much zeal as he could.
Peaceful Daily Scenes
Albert Neuhuys was willing to paint as frequently as he liked throughout his lifetime. It was really his source of revenue! Much of the time, he presented the everyday home life of different individuals. As you already know, this was the topic of the drawing that the boy brought to the Antiques Roadshow. It was a lovely piece of art that depicted a mother weaving while her child was observing her work. The artist often preferred to paint domestic activities in rural environments, such as farmers employed in the field. Many of his paintings are displayed in museums of art. How did one of them end up in the hands of this boy?
A Great Dutch Painter
It goes without saying that David understood more about the artwork and the creator than the younger one did. This was crucial when you were analyzing an item. He was talking about who Neuhuys was until he disclosed his value. “Neuhuys was a Dutch painter. He was born in 1844 and died in 1914. I believe your aquarium was actually made in the last quarter of the 19th century,” he said. Before that point, the boy needed to know how old this drawing was. The specialist could see that this was taken seriously by the young man. The young man, on the basis of his own expression, listened to every word.
Making The Young Man Guess
There was nothing unusual about the show’s experts challenging the guests to guess exactly how much their object was worth. The fact is, there’s nothing strange about these people having a higher estimate, too. Much of the time, they’re sure that the item will help them survive. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case. Now that David Weiss was finished sharing further detail regarding the drawing, it was time for the boy to make a guess. This was a perfect approach, so he could understand more about the area he was so involved in. How good did he do now that he understood something about the object in question?
How Much It Was Really Worth
Weiss asked him, “How much do you think is worth it? “Let’s figure out if the kid had it right this time around. He will assess the young man at any chance and see how well he understood the area. It was obvious that he had strong hopes of drawing. After all, they wouldn’t have taken an hour-long trip from New Jersey to Virginia if it wasn’t the case. The young man thought about it and then made a guess. He said to Weiss, “Hundred and fifty bucks.” Did he have it right? Let them find out about it!
It Was Not Even Close
“Hundreds of fifty bucks? “David Weiss echoed the young boy’s comment. Suddenly, the expert said, “I guess it’s worth a hundred and fifty. I believe it’s worth more than a hundred and fifty.” Considering this, the excitement of the young man did not alter at all. He just let the appraiser test the object a bit further. All present was eager to learn what Weiss had to suggest about it. He said, “Today, if your Albert Neuhuys aquarium comes to the sale. It’s possibly going to go for $1000 to $1500.” The boy couldn’t conceal his shock when he heard Weiss say, “Thousand.”
A Lot Higher Than He Expected
As a matter of truth, the young man could not say anything but “Woah.” This phrase fell out of his mouth when he realized how much it was worth. Weiss blew his mind with his portrait assessment! And if he didn’t think it was right, the specialist assumed the child was a natural boy. Of course, he always had a lot to practice before he could reach the major leagues. “This is a lot of capital! “The young boy responded. Who would have figured he might make a thousand bucks with a drawing he received for two dollars? David taught him a short lesson before the display came to a close.
A Bright Future Ahead Of Him
The boy was the youngest celebrity ever to come on the program, which is remarkable enough on its own. David Weiss then told him, “So I think you have a wonderful future as an art dealer. You’re allowed to hold it.” We’re confident that the young man was moved to know such a thing. He said, “I know.” That wasn’t all of it! The youngster also said, “I hope I’m going to be wealthy. “The specialist could not help but comply with that. Apart from that, Weiss told the young man that he was doing a decent job for his generation. As long as he polished his innate ability, he might make all his wishes come true!
