Guns’n’Roses, fronted by the lithe and limber, controversial-but-not-just-for-wearing-bike-shorts-on-stage Axl Rose, became undisputed kings of complex rock music in 1987. “Appetite for Destruction” has shipped over 30 million copies worldwide, with the follow-up “Use Your Illusion” selling another 35 million. Rose was famous back then for sparking riots and tossing liquor bottles at fans during live shows, in addition to possessing an impressive vocal ability. However, the project quickly disintegrated due to personal disagreements. For a long time, the band went on hiatus before eventually launching the album “Chinese Democracy,” which did not sell as well as their label had hoped.
