Skincare

Ah, the constant struggle of trying to get healthy, glowing skin. It feels like it’s never ending. With the abundance of information online, it can be overwhelming to figure out what is the best way to take care of your own skin. So, instead of trying to attempt to cover too many topics at once, we’re gonna go back to basics and tell you about the most simple and straightforward tips to begin your journey to healthy skin.

Hydrate

First thing’s first: drink water. It’s fundamental to your skin and overall health. Besides for helping skin glow and stay hydrated, drinking enough water can help with fatigue and other problems. Drinking plenty of water can reduce the appearance of fine lines and help with keeping your skin hydrated and supple.

Moisturize

No matter what type of skin you have, you need to moisturize. The key is finding the correct moisturizer according to your skin type. For instance, the best moisturizer for oily skin is oil-free as excess oil can lead to acne and breakouts. On the other hand, for dry skin, oil-based moisturizers are great as the skin is lacking in oils naturally so it’s essential to replenish its supply. Depending on what kind of moisturizer you prefer, you can find various kinds that have different consistencies and additives like vitamins that nourish the skin. You’re better off testing a few different kinds to figure out which one works best for you.

Sleep

Another fundamental thing that can make or break a skincare routine: sleep. Even though it’s easier said than done, getting enough sleep is so important for healthy skin, not to mention for your health in general. Sleeping enough can make your skin look brighter and less dreary. Another factor is what you sleep on. A softer pillowcase can decrease the chance of getting wrinkles. Satin pillowcases seem to be the best option for this.

Exfoliate

About twice a week, exfoliating is a must. Whether you want a more gentle exfoliant for sensitive skin or a heavy-duty one, it is essential for the skin. What exfoliating does is remove the dead skin cells on the surface which allows the pores to get properly cleaned and avoid them getting clogged. Clogged pores can lead to breakouts and acne. It also allows the skin to renew itself more efficiently by removing the dead skin that just gets in the way.

Sunscreen

This is another must for glowing skin. Never skip sunscreen. The UV rays from the sun cause damage to the skin long-term, even if now they may give you a lovely glow. In the long run, exposure to UV rays for long lengths of time can result in age spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer. We cannot stress this enough: wear your sunscreen. At least SPF 15.

Exercise

While exercise is fantastic and even essential for overall health, it also has serious benefits for the skin. When you exercise and start sweating, at this point the sweat actually helps clear the pores and rid them of dirt. Of course, you need to cleanse the skin after a workout, but the benefits still stand. In addition, exercise increases the blood circulation everywhere, including the face which helps flush out toxins, leading to a clearer complexion and a natural, healthy glow.

Hands Off

You might not notice this on a day-to-day basis, but people tend to have the bad habit of touching their face throughout the day. This is a terrible habit for the skin. Think about it: you touch so many things during the day, your hands just collect germs. Yes, you wash them with soap when going to the bathroom, but you still touch various objects afterward. If you find yourself absentmindedly touching your face, make a point to stop and be more aware of it in the future to curb the habit. Touching your face too much can cause major breakouts and acne, and we all know you don’t want any of that.
