As soon as you become a mom or dad, it is only inevitable for you to think about your own parents and your childhood. Aikman has said that his dad was a big figure in his life and helped mold him into the person and sportsman he now is. “I don’t even know if [my father] knows that there’s a part of me that wanted to prove that I was as tough as he was. But it certainly helped me in my athletic career,” he told GQ. His love of sports ran in the blood since both sides of his family were into sports. But did he want to follow suit and raise his daughters in the same way that his dad raised him?

It turns out that his father had an obsession with football and encouraged Aikman to take the sport seriously. “He loved football. He didn’t make a lot of baseball and basketball games. But he didn’t miss many football games.” But did this mean that he wanted his daughters to grow up in the same way? He gave it a lot of thought but realized that he was not interested in being a coach to them. He clarified, “I just want to be Dad.”
