When you are a single parent, the good cop and bad cop roles begin to get quite slippery. Many parents prefer to shy away from this route. At the end of the day, Troy Aikman only wanted to be a dad to his girls. He did not want to risk his relationship with them by training them in football like his own father did to him. “I knew my girls would see me in an entirely different light and I just didn’t want that,” he told GQ. As a matter of fact, he did not only feel this. He knew that this would, for certain, be the case.

When his daughters Jordan and Alexa were about six years old, Aikman decided that it was time to be more involved in their lives. He wanted to be more than just their father and tried his hand at training them in sports. He himself started out when he was very young. “I coached the girls as an assistant coach in a couple of sports, and I was way too competitive for that,” he told GQ. This was the reason that he decided that it was better for him to cheer them on from the bleachers instead of coaching them from the sidelines. He did not have any problems with that either!
