The Real Reason

During his 2016 interview with the Dallas News, Aikman expounded on his reasons: “Ultimately, the reason I retired after 12 years was because I felt that I had worked hard to develop some level of credibility and respect within this game. And I felt like that was being jeopardized by decisions that were being made beyond my control within the organization.” Decades of experience on the field made Aikman realize how he “didn’t want to be a part of it anymore.”

His Proudest Achievement

To this day, Aikman is thought to be one of the greatest football players in history. At the very least, he is definitely a legend in the Cowboys. However, he brought so much more to the table than mere points and throws. He was always an excellent team player, both on and off the field. “When I look back on my athletic career, I know the fans want to talk about the Super Bowls. And I’m proud of those. There’s no question those are meaningful things,” he told Dallas News, “But what I’m most proud of is the friendships that I have to this day.” However, it would not be until a couple of years later that he started to realize that there is something else that he could be even prouder about.
