Robert Reed (Mike Brady)

Before Robert Reed became Mike Brady, the classic family man, he had studied drama at Northwestern University and at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. After Reed graduated, he decided to return to the United States and joined the off-Broadway theater group called “The Summer Shakespearewrights.” In 1961, he finally had his first serious acting gig onscreen. He was cast in The Defenders, where he played a recent law school graduate named Kenneth Prestson.

Reed After The Show

Seven years after Reed made his onscreen debut, he landed the role on The Brady Bunch, for which he is most known for. The loving family man persona he had on the show stole the viewer’s hearts. Reed reprised his role a few times and starred in smaller films before he became a drama teacher at Los Angeles’ University of California. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 59 and it was reportedly due to colon cancer, but it was later revealed that AIDS had hastened his death.
