The bus driver said, “The neighbors jumped in and got the babies to a safe haven, and then I ran back into the bus, because I had to make sure all of my babies were accounted for.”

It looked like everyone else was able to make it out safely, but Smith decided to go back inside the bus. At the time, the bus was quickly being filled with noxious smoke and fumes. The bus driver braved all of these to make sure that every seat was left empty and only got out when she confirmed this.
