Medals
It was only right that Dakota and his colleagues received the recognition they deserved. Risking themselves to help the unit despite being outnumbered and lacking support was certainly heroism at it’s finest. Receiving the Medal of Honor, Dakota and two other marines from his team, were told that they would receive the Navy Cross; the second-highest award for valor that is possible for a marine to obtain.

A Presidential Meeting
Dakota was contacted by President Obama’s staff to confirm a time that the President could congratulate Dakota on the phone for his heroics and organize a time for them to be informed that his case for Medal of Honor had been accepted. Dakota however had begun working in construction at this time, and the Presidential staff had been advised to call again at a later time as he was busy at work. Dakota finally arranged a time to meet the President, and his request for a beer with the man himself was accepted.
