A Seattle Start
Born in Philip, South Dakota, Patrick attended high school in Seattle, Washington at an all-boys school where he showed from an early age an active interest in sport. After high school, Patrick enrolled at Seattle University where he attended the compulsory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program. Patrick initially didn’t have a great aptitude for the program, dropping out to reentered the program shortly after leaving to enter the military as an officer.

The Beginning
Commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps after reentering the program, Patrick went on active duty. Patrick was stationed in West Berlin for two years, and after this period became the Motor Pool officer of a West Berlin hospital. Patrick went from higher levels to higher levels, becoming Detachment Commander to then graduate from the US Army School of Aviation. Shortly after a successful start to his military career, he was deployed on to Vietnam.
