When he was attending the military academy, he took part in a number of sports. It must have helped that he was 6’2.” He is said to have played tennis, golf, squash, and football. There are pictures of him in a varsity baseball team that surfaced. Even though these interests eventually faded, golf continues to be a staple in his life even decades later.

When he was attending NYMA, he had been on the football team. His love for sports had been there even during his youth. This might be part of the reason he went on to own a football team! He tried to operate a separate American football league in the hopes that it could compete with the NFL.
