The Turkey Pardons
The National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation is a traditional ceremony that dates all the way back to the ‘40s. However, it was not until the Reagan administration that a turkey was “pardoned”, even though he did not actually use that exact word. The first official pardon from a president happened in 1999 when POTUS Bill Clinton pardoned ‘Harry The Turkey’. Although this is a pretty new tradition, it has become expected of the sitting president to pardon a turkey whenever Thanksgiving rolls in.
