Mickey Rourke Then
In 1982, Mickey Rourke launched his comedy career by starring in Diner. However, what really shot him to stardom was his work in Angel Heart and 9 ½ Weeks. It was clear that he did not mind taking on projects that dealt with taboo subject matters. They might be tame compared to what we now know, but they made him the sex symbol that he became. The same was true for his costars Lisa Bonet and Kim Basinger. In 1991, he left acting to focus on boxing instead since he used to box in his youth. After his retirement, he enjoyed a boxing career of three years.
Mickey Rourke Now
The actor landed a couple of minor acting roles in the ‘90s. After his time in the boxing ring, he made a comeback. Even though his sports career led to facial damage, he found steady work thanks to his acting chops. He was usually cast to play misunderstood misfits and tough guys. However, he only landed a big role in Sin City (2005). He gained even more critical acclaim for his performance in The Wrestler (2009). In fact, he was nominated for an Academy Award, a BAFTA, and a Golden Globe for it! He has gone under the knife several times in the past, which is how he has stayed so handsome.
