2019: Adam Levine

Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake had one of the most unforgettable Super Bowl halftime shows in 2004. There was a fair bit of controversy thanks to the wardrobe malfunction Jackson suffered on live TV. Meanwhile, Adam Levine took the stage in 2019. He was criticized heavily when he began to take off his clothes until he was only wearing pants! Twitter users started asking why this was fine, but Jackson’s was not. The double standard was brought to close scrutiny, and rightfully so.

2006: Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones jumpstarted the halftime of Super Bowl 2006 with performances of “Satisfaction”, and “Start Me Up”. Mick Jagger made this joke before diving into “Satisfaction”: “This one we could have done for Super Bowl I.” They had to change out some of the racier lyrics, although the whole performance was received well by the critics and crowds alike. They ended the show with “Rough Justice”.
