Maria cleared her throat
Maria had to figure this out on her own, which she found to be uncomfortable. In an effort to get the girl to notice and adjust her hair so Maria wouldn’t have to address her further, the woman cleared her voice to indicate that something bothered her. She did nothing, much to her dismay.

She then asked the girl politely to move her hair as she bent over to the left side of the chair in front of her. Maria was met with silence when she said, “I’m sorry to bother you, but your hair is almost hanging in my drink.” She delicately tapped the girl’s shoulder and asked again, wondering if the girl was listening to music.
