To Maria’s amazement, the girl in front of her did little more than tuck her front strands of hair behind her ear to demonstrate that she didn’t actually have anything in her ears. As time went on, it became more and more obvious to Maria what kind of person she was dealing with: she was blatantly ignoring her request.

To be sure, Maria made the decision to ask her one more time. Perhaps the girl had been daydreaming or otherwise preoccupied with her own thoughts when she failed to see the woman. “Hello? I can’t hear you.”, but once more the girl disregarded it. Maria was now certain that the girl was feigning not to hear her.
