Eye contact
The girl and Maria’s eyes briefly locked as Maria was about to take a seat. The odd girl gave Maria a disdainful and haughty look as she turned to face her. She kept moving forward while still pulling her trolley, and when she passed her, it was a relief. This emotion, though, was fleeting.

Maria felt anxious
Maria discovered, to her regret, that her seat was just behind the row where the haughty girl was sitting. When it finally hit her, she experienced anxiety. At least that is preferable to sitting next to her, she reasoned to herself. She didn’t have to look her in the eye again, but things would only get worse from here.
