Taking Charge
Wouldn’t you think that Billie’s father would have picked up on the fact that Peggy wasn’t interested in his daughter? As a result, he took matters into his own hands and began telling Billie what he knew about Peggy. Peggy was soon the one who was receiving correspondence from Billie. Peggy admitted that she was a little intimidated by Billie at first. After all, she had no prior knowledge of him. However, it was only after Billie took a leave of absence and paid a visit to Peggy that the two became close.
Based On Friendship
Unfortunately, Billie lived in San Antonio, Texas, which was a long distance away from the military installation where Peggy was stationed at the time. In order for these two to converse, they needed to write letters to one another. However, following their first initial meeting, the letters began to arrive in greater numbers and frequency. Through their correspondence, they were able to quickly become the best of friends. Their friendship and feelings for one another grew stronger with each new letter that arrived in the mail. It didn’t take long for Billie’s letters to become more flirtatious, and the couple was soon engaged in courtship activities.
