Traditional Courtship
Peggy and Billie didn’t meet at a party or other event, as is often the case. Instead, they spoke with one another through letters. You have to understand that back then, it was not ordinary for people to write letters to one another, or even to go to court through the medium of letters. You have to understand that In today’s world, it may seem strange to receive a letter from someone you have never met before. However, there was no such thing as Skype, Facebook, or Twitter back then. Writing and sending letters through the mail was the only way to communicate with and get to know someone if they lived a long distance away from you.
It was unethical.
Peggy, on the other hand, was still unsure about writing to Billie, despite his father’s encouragement to do so. Billie was a student who was studying to fly, and his father thought it would be beneficial for Billi to receive letters from a girl to keep him encouraged in his endeavors. Peggy, on the other hand, was not so convinced. She informed Billie’s father that she doesn’t write to males she doesn’t know because she doesn’t trust them.
