Open shelves should be avoided as they give off an overcrowded and cluttered kind of feeling rather than the organized one you were aiming for. Another good reason to ditch the open shelves is that they are also a mission to clean. When using the open shelf layout it takes away from your decorating possibilities, your kitchen utensils are in turn your decor.
