Modernizing
At the very least, some of them want to live their lives first. Author Gill Knappett claimed in her book Charles, Prince of Wales, that William does not plan to “climb the ladder of kingship” until he is older. Harry has also come out and let everyone know that the monarch’s role is not one that his relatives want all that much. “We are involved in modernizing the British monarchy. We are not doing this for ourselves but for the greater good of the people,” he explained to Newsweek in 2017.
Carrying Out Their Duties
“Is there any one of the royal family who wants to be king or queen? I don’t think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time.” The Queen might never abdicate the throne, maybe because she thinks of it as her duty and not a privilege. In 1947, she said something along these lines during the speech she gave on her 21st birthday. She explained, “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service.”
