On succeeding to the throne, the Prince of Wales would not be the first royal to experience a title upgrade. Cornwall’s Duchess, Camilla, married Charles at the Guildhall in Windsor in 2005. A King’s spouse immediately becomes Queen by common law, but Camilla does not take this title. When the Queen dies, the 73-year-old will be recognized as the “Princess Consort.” Clarence House said in a statement to the paper: “The intention is for the Duchess to be known as Princess Consort when the Prince accesses the throne.”

When Prince Charles becomes Sovereign, there may still be several improvements to the Royal Family’s make-up. Charles was apparently still seeking to reduce the scale of the Royal Family. Royal Central’s deputy editor, Brittani Barger, told the paper: “I think the Andrew crisis has definitely strengthened the desire of Prince Charles for a slimmed-down monarchy.”
